The gap

Daily astrology apps are a crowded, well funded category. Co-Star and Chani proved people will open something spiritual every morning if the writing is good enough. Numerology has the same daily hook, a much simpler calculation behind it and almost nothing decent built on top of it.

The opening was not a better horoscope. It was a daily ritual with an actual number behind it, written in a voice that does not sound like a fortune cookie.

Everything comes from one number a day

Your Personal Day Number is calculated from your birth date and the current date. In Numeral it is not a stat on a profile screen, it is the key that unlocks every piece of content you see that day. Readings, quotes, events and draws all route through it, so the whole app feels like one thing instead of four features stapled together.

Design decisions

Four choices that shaped the product more than any screen did.

  1. A window, not a feed

The daily reading opens at 11:11 in the morning and closes at 11:11 the next morning. One reveal per day, in a box you have to physically open. Scarcity does the work that an infinite feed usually does, and it fits the number the whole brand is built on.

  2. I cut the gacha mechanic

An early version had rare pulls with weighted odds. It tested well as a hook and I killed it anyway. Variable ratio reinforcement is a slot machine pattern and this is a wellness product that people open first thing in the morning. Specialness got anchored to Master Number days instead, so the rare moments are real and predictable rather than engineered.

  3. Five systems, one surface

Western, Chaldean, Vedic, Chinese Kua and Mayan Tzolkin all calculate differently and rarely agree. Rather than picking one or showing five contradictory numbers, the app weaves them, pairing your Personal Day Number with a number from another system and writing to where the two meet.

  4. Free tier that is honest

Free users open two of three daily categories and get short readings. Members get all three plus the long versions. No fake locks, no countdown pressure. The upsell lives on the profile screen where the comparison can be read properly instead of interrupting the ritual.

Content as architecture

A daily app dies the day the writing repeats. Most of this project was not interface work, it was building a content system big enough that a heavy user does not hit the bottom of it.

1,800 passages

Twelve numbers across six categories, twenty five variants each, split into free and premium depth.

5,420 weaves

Every Personal Day Number paired against every number in the other four systems, ten variants deep.

53 codex entries

The reference layer. What each number means, where each system came from, how the maths works.

All of it written to one house style: blunt and modern with warmth, a bit of humour, and a growth reframe on every number that traditionally gets treated as bad news. Copy runs through spreadsheets rather than code, so it can be edited and expanded without a deploy. I wrote the readings myself and checked the systems against local numerology practitioners.

Building it

Designed in the browser rather than in Figma. Prototypes in React and Tailwind with Supabase behind them, which meant every spacing and motion decision got tested on a real phone the same day it was made.

Capacitor wraps it for the App Store and Google Play, chosen over the managed wrappers so I keep full ownership of the build. RevenueCat handles subscriptions across both platforms. Notifications fire locally at both ends of the daily window, on the user's own timezone.

Brand

Gothic modern, built on lavender, black and holographic gradients. Tarot adjacent without the woodcut clichés. The reveal mechanic is an iridescent moon button, Master Numbers get their own animation, and a rotating tagline system keeps the personality present without turning the app into a joke.

The identity carries across the app, the store listing, the social accounts and the landing page, which is the advantage of the designer and the developer being the same person.

Screens

The app

Store screenshots for the App Store and Google Play, designed alongside the app itself. Tap any screen to see it full size.
